True psychological terror isn't cheap jump scares—it's the creeping realization that the ordinary world around you has subtly warped. In NILAL — Follow You Forever (நிழல்), Lumyro explored the dark psychology of reflection and paranoia.
1. The Concept: When Your Reflection Hesitates
The premise is deceptively simple: a man washes his face in a dimly lit bathroom mirror at 2 AM. When he looks up, his reflection moves half a second slower than his own body... until the reflection smiles while his real face remains expressionless.
2. Engineering Uncanny Mirror Visual FX
Simulating mirrors in generative AI is notorious because AI diffusion models naturally attempt to synchronize reflections with the foreground. Lumyro engineered an asynchronous dual-pass generation technique:
- Foreground Pass: Generating the protagonist's real-world actions with naturalistic lighting and tension.
- Reflection Pass: Independently animating the reflection's posture, expression, and micro-delays before compositing via DaVinci Resolve.
- Shadow Distortion: Crafting elongating silhouettes that separate from wall surfaces and linger in doorways.
"Horror works in the gap between what you expect to see and what actually moves in the dark. AI allowed us to distort physics just enough to make the skin crawl."

3. The Sound of Dread
The sound design uses binaural audio techniques: faint whispers panned hard into the left ear, water droplets echoing with unnatural reverb, and low-frequency infrasound pulses (around 19Hz) designed to induce physical unease in headphones.
